Ackerman Lends a Hand to a Burglarized Marietta Church
MARIETTA -- First Christian Church in Marietta opens its doors and its heart to the community with a food bank that feeds more than 500 families a month and an open door policy for community group meetings and events.
But now the small church is in trouble. It's been robbed four times and the congregation fears more thefts.
"It hurts," said church board member Kathleen Heerman. " It hurts terribly."
Reverend Jeffrey Shimizu says the church is doing all it can to stem the thefts.
"We've lost musical equipment, like keyboards and drum sets from the sanctuary," he said. "We've lost laptops and some money as well. We have a few cameras, but I think they are inadequate. There are a lot of entry points into the sanctuary and into the church, so we don't have those all protected."
That's why the Help Desk stepped in.
We contacted Atlanta based Ackerman Security and got an immediate response.
"We are going to put in an alarm system today to try and help out the church and try to deter these criminals from this type of activity," said Marc Hoffmann of Ackerman.
"Getting a security system. I'd like to get up and dance, but I can't so I'll just say thank you very much," Heerman said. "Right now I am a little bit in shock -- excellent shock, excellent shock."
