Sam and Zandra Roper’s Home Destroyed By Fire Early Monday
The home of Sam and Zandra Roper is destroyed by an early morning fire.
The home of Sam and Zandra Roper, one of Greene County’s most popular couples’ lives were saved when a fire alarm went off early Monday morning, March 16 at 2:00 A.M. at their home 2 ½ miles from Greensboro on the Siloam Road.
When the couple woke up their home was blazing and the house was full of smoke. Two dogs in their home were killed. The home was a total loss.
Mrs. Roper told The Herald Journal, Tuesday, “The fire started in a utility room near the carport. We had Ackerman Security and the alarm went off, saving our lives.”
Mrs. Roper added, “We have high praise for the Greensboro and Siloam volunteer firemen. These gentlemen fought the fire at our home for three hours. Because of these men, we saved some pictures and furniture. These men are volunteers and receive little salary and I will always be indebted to these two groups of men who worked so hard to save our home. I am still shook up but plan to write a letter next week about these volunteers who went for hours fighting fire at our home. These men are heroes and Sam and I deeply appreciate them in our time of need.”
Sam and Zandra are making their home temporarily with Mr. A.P. Roper. Greene County is saddened by the fire. Both Sam and Zandra have hundreds of friends who were saddened by their loss.
